House of Architecture
RIBA
The House of Architecture (HoA) is RIBA’s 10-year transformation programme, aimed at redefining the institution’s role for the future. The programme encompasses the modernisation of its historic headquarters, the digitisation of its archive, and the development of a more inclusive and accessible identity.
The challenge was to create a visual identity that could communicate long-term transformation and innovation, while remaining sensitive to RIBA’s heritage, existing brand hierarchy, and a wide range of stakeholders.
My Approach
Initial Concept: Pixel-Inspired Identity
I began by exploring a pixel-inspired programme identity, using modular forms to represent digitisation, accessibility, and inclusivity. The system was designed to feel contemporary and flexible, allowing it to scale across physical and digital environments. This initial concept was well received by stakeholders for its originality and strong conceptual alignment with the brief.
Refinement Through Collaboration
Following further feedback from additional stakeholders, the identity was refined to align more closely with RIBA’s existing brand framework. I adapted the visual language to sit comfortably within the wider brand hierarchy while retaining the core idea behind the original concept.
